Right Said Fred are often remembered as a one-hit wonder band in the United States, where they are best known for their debut single "I'm Too Sexy." However, they have remained popular elsewhere. "You're My Mate" achieved gold status in Germany and hit #5 on the charts there, while making it to #18 in the UK. It was the official anthem of the South African rugby union team in 2002.
This song is from the point of view of a man whose friend has just ended a relationship. The singer buys his friend a drink and consoles him, telling him to get over his ex-girlfriend because she is a "cow." Later on, however, he buys the woman a drink, telling her that his friend is a "pain" and begins hitting on her himself!
There's plenty of bagpipe in this song, which has a Celtic feel. The video might be the most famous use of models playing bagpipes.
