In doing so, the songstress is reclaiming misguided words that she first wrote when she was 18 and reworking them in context as a woman. Twigs told Complex that she remains shocked by the reason she wrote something so submissive and far from who she is today: "I realized that I'd been brainwashed and preconditioned to write a pop song and write it from that point of view," she said.
