Alan Jackson wrote "If I Could Make A Living" in the late '80s with Roger Murrah and Keith Stegall, but Jackson decided to toss it, thinking it would never be a hit. Clay Walker picked it up and it became one of his biggest hits.
Keith Stegall, who was one of the writers of this song, was Jackson's producer and worked with Walker on the album. He's the one who brought the song to Walker.
