Chris Young wrote the song with Corey Crowder and Josh Hoge for his 2015 I'm Comin Over set. It got nixed from that record but "Hangin' On," er, hung on and got included on Losing Sleep.
"Hangin' On" has become a live favorite. "One of my favorite things about this song is it's one you just want to wave your hands to," Young explained to ABC Radio. "It just has that beat that even live, I'll get people as we are [singing] 'Hangin' on, hangin' on,' ...everybody wants to do it."
