Greta Van Fleet had to tone this down from its original incarnation. Bassist Sam Kiszka explained to ABC Radio: "When we formatted 'Safari Song' for the first time, there was a lot more percussion. We kind of, I don't wanna say Dumbed it down, but kinda simplified it in the studio." "When you go in the studio, you go from four musicians to infinite musicians in there, you can layer, like, 30 guitars," he continued. "I think the important part is learning how to do that in discretion." Guitarist Jake Kiszka added that the band is happy with the final track. "It was taking too many liberties and being overly creative," he said.
