This song is a tribute to the No BS! Brass Band's hometown of Richmond, Virginia, known as "The RVA." Group leader Reggie Pace described the song as a "pep rally for our city." Said Pace: "It feels like a pep rally, like cheerleaders are running around. And it's just loud, like a theme song if you will. Our team is like a football team, so it's like we're the football team."
With 12 members, the No BS! Brass Band can make quite a racket, which comes in handy for a party tune like this one. At one point in the song, it turns into a call-and-response, which works even if their not in Richmond: "When I say RV, you say A." The rap is handled by trombone player Bryan Hooten.
The brass sound is associated with New Orleans, but No BS! always made it clear they had a different point of origin, which endears them to their hometown faithful. "Our city really embraces us because we don't pretend to be from New Orleans - we don't pretend to be something we aren't," Pace said.
