The title track of Blossoms' second album is a tongue-in-cheek declaration of individuality. Frontman Tom Ogden explained to the BBC: "After being in this industry for a while and seeing how things work, it's saying, "We're happy staying in our lane and doing our thing. We're not going to be cool like you."
It was the band's dry sense of humour that made them decide on Cool Like You for the album title. "I was against singling out one track on the album for the title," Ogden told The Sun. "But is a great song title and the meaning is tongue-in-cheek. It's us saying 'We're not going to be cool like you. We're going to do our own thing.'" Bandmate Joe Donovan added: "We've never been part of that side of things. It's us saying 'You can all stay at your Brits after-party and we will go to our hotel for our own party.'"
