Ariana Grande first released two separate snippets of the song on her Snapchat account on June 17, 2015. She then premiered the entire tune when she hosted Saturday Night Live on March 12, 2016. The track was released six days later.

The song's laid-back instrumentation rides on a warm and sunny groove. The tune was produced by the Australian record producing and song-writing duo Twice As Nice, whose other credits include Tiesto's "Wasted" and Rihanna's "Needed Me."
