This cheeky, confrontational tune was, according to singer Julia Cumming, "Inspired by inner strength, power, and sexual freedom." Do you really wanna come for me? Do you, do you, do you, do you? You know I got all night (Ooh) Do you really wanna waste my time? Cumming added that it is a declaration of the fact that in 2018 "there is no time to waste and no time for shame" when you want to assert your sexuality. "The song is a dare, a threat, and a beckoning."
"Come for Me" was inspired by the upfront rhymes of rapper Cardi B. "Her songs have such an element of humor, of sexuality, of strength," Cumming explained to The Independent, "and kind of a blatancy that I feel gets lost in the world of indie rock, where everyone is always trying to be cool." The Sunflower Bean singer added that after listening to Cardi B she wondered if the band could come up with something similar. Then they started working on "Come for Me," which "had this aggressive, fighting energy that also felt, in a weird way, connected to my sexuality."
