This song came out of an unexpected experience when Jones was flying across the American Midwest and her plane ran into a thunderstorm. She explained to UK newspaper The Mail On Sunday: "It was frightening, but also very beautiful. I started singing, 'The prettiest thing I ever did see was lightning from the top of a cloud...', which turned into a song on my second album." She added: "I never know when inspiration is going to strike. I just have to be ready for it when it happens."
