Back in 2017, Thomas Rhett sang of how his life changed after marrying his wife Lauren and adopting their daughter Willa Gray. Since then, Rhett has become a father twice more and is acting more and more like a responsible dad rather than the crazy kid he used to be. He wrote this reflective song about those moments when he realizes he is indeed "growing up."
Rhett had the title stored in his phone for a while. He co-wrote the song with his buddies Matt Dragstrem, Josh Miller and Josh Thompson while out on the road. Rhett told The Boot the inspiration came from those occasions when he wakes up and thinks, "Gosh, dude, you're getting old... You are, like, wearing the front swaddle now with your kid on the beach - you have officially moved into a different level of dad-ness."
During the chorus, Rhett sings about how his lifestyle is changing, reminding him he's not that dumb 19-year-old kid anymore. Guess you get a little older, get a little wiser A little more turn that cheek Little less what I want, and more what I need these days Every year, Rhett is growing up, wising up and maturing a little bit more.
