"Show You" was written by Shawn Mendes along with the New York-based musicians Ido Zmishlany and Scott Harris, and the Swedish producer Martin Terefe. In our interview with Ido Zmishlany, he revealed that Mendes actually approached the trio with a good portion of the song already done. Zmishlany explained the changes that they made to the tune. "We found a melody, flow, and lyric that tied it all together in a way that felt compelling," he said. He expressed his thought process on how to make the song shine: "It was like, 'Okay, well, what does 'Show You' mean? How do we develop that meaning? How do we get some lyrics that really hit?' And that was it. He came in with most of it. We just tweaked it from there and came out with something that we're really proud of."
Speaking with Radio.com, Shawn singled out this track as his favorite from The Shawn Mendes EP. "The song is about how people are always telling you that you can't do something because you're too young or whatever, and how you have the power to show the world that you can do whatever you want," he explained. "It's a pretty empowering song."
