This song is Matt Terry's take on the darker side of love. He said: "We've all been in that position when we know a relationship is toxic and not good for us, but sometimes we ignore it and refuse to let go. I wrote this song when I was going through exactly that. The lyrics tell a tale of heartbreak, but the melody isn't sad or depressing – because I've come out the other side and I'm happy now."
Matt Terry's entire debut record was inspired by his relationship and split with girlfriend Jasmine Avis. He told The Sun: "The whole album is around when I was in a three-year relationship." Terry added regarding this song: "It's about that point in a relationship where it's going downhill but you love them so much that no matter how much wrong they do, you still stick around. We've all been in that moment where we realise we love whoever we are with more than they love us, but you overlook if they're not pulling their weight and they can't really do anything wrong because you're always going to be there. I sound like a little bit of a loser."
Matt Terry wrote the song with production trio The Family in Sweden. The Family's other credits include Måns Zelmerlöw's 2015 Eurovision Song Contest winning tune "Heroes," Fifth Harmony's Reflection track "Top Down" and JoJo's 2015 comeback single "Save My Soul."
