Did You Know?

Interesting facts and trivia about Sulfur Surrounding. By Songfacts®.

During this rock ballad, vocalist Jami Morgan sings about how when "haunted by chemical compulsion" relationships can become destructive and eventually hopeless. Morgan explained the song's meaning to Apple Music: "This is about how we manipulate each other without even meaning to. And sometimes, people mean to. Are you corroding your group by making everyone so connected and having to go on? That's something I've struggled with. Is this the wrong thing for these people who are my friends? I want to do the right thing, but these feelings take over. And I feel everyone can relate to that in a way."

"Sulfur Surrounding" is Code Orange's take on a full-on rock ballad with their individual twists. Guitarist Reba Meyers explained to Kerrang: "It's one of our bigger, classic-sounding melodies. We tried with this song to really give it another element of bringing weird heavy aspects while still keeping the flow of a more melodic song."

The song starts off with a sample spoken by Canadian singer-songwriter Nicole Dollanganger. The same sample is also the sole vocal on the album's intro track "Deeper Than Before."
