Dominic Harrison is a British singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist who records under the name of Yungblud. Harrison first picked up a guitar at age two and began writing his own songs at age 10. He moved from his native Yorkshire to London to kick-start his career and released this real-life tale of a tragic romance on his self-titled debut EP. "I Love You" became his US chart debut peaking at #26 on Billboard's Alternative Songs.
The song tells the true story of a man named Jason from Harrison's hometown of Sheffield. In 2001, he proposed to a woman named Clare Middleton by spray painting "I Love You, Will U Marry Me" on Park Hill. Jason was spurned and the graffiti was later used for marketing purposes by a urban regeneration company who wanted to redevelop the area. Clare has since died of cancer, and at the time of the song's release Jason was homeless.
