He told Uncut: "I guess on I Feel Energy I was trying to do a kind of punk funk - you know, a kind of rhythmic intensity but with that kind of punk f--k you attitude. I guess that's Prince!"

The track features vocals by R&B-tinged pop songstress Amber Mark. Longstreth commented to Verified Tasks: "I get ardor from her voice. And she or he simply slays the half. She makes the music occur."
