This Leslie Bricasse song was a rare British international success in the years before the Beatles took over the singles charts. In peaking at #18 in the US, Monro became the first British singer to reach the American Top 20 in over three years - the previous being Laurie London with "He's Got The Whole World In His Hands" in April 1958. Matt's daughter, Michele Monro, recalled to Mojo magazine February 2011: "For all its success, Dad never did receive a cent in royalties from America. However it was testament to the song's popularity and Matt's performance that both Sinatra and Sammy Davis Jr. later recorded the track."
The song won ITV's British Song Contest in February 1961.
