Anthony Kiedis said of this song: "I sing more about a feeling than an idea, it's kind of a dream, the whole lyrics is kind of a dream which take place 3000 years ago. Not time-specific, it's kind of time travel, just going back to a different time and place... You know, not being in reality 3000 years ago, but a dream 3000 years ago. The 'We Believe' concept is just about belief and the importance in believing."
Because of the song's African feel, the working title was "Fela Funk," named after Nigerian musician Fela Kuti.
Stadium Arcadium, the band's ninth studio album, won the Grammy Award for Best Rock Album in 2007. It was also their first album to hit #1 in the US.
