This song was inspired by two different books that Steve Gunn had read. He told Uncut magazine: "I read a story by Mary Gaitskell. The first half is about when you're young and you have this urge to sneak out at night. I also really re-read Mikhail Bulgakov's The Master and Margarita [which inspired the Rolling Stones song "Sympathy For The Devil"], where a cat plays the devil. I had this dream about when I was a kid and I climbed out of my window and met up with this cat, and we took a walk." Gunn added: "This song is about being comfortable with being lost, which you have to accept if you're living a lifestyle where you're just kinda wondering."
