"Lainey Wilson's "Wildflowers and Wild Horses" is a fierce anthem of grit and freedom painting the American West with a rebel's brush, a vibe deeply rooted in Wilson's Louisiana upbringing. From five generations blazing trails, to barbed-wired valleys and overgrown dells, this barefoot, bareback, tough-as-nails storyteller is four-fifths reckless, one-fifth jack, pushing through old sidewalk cracks like a determined daisy. "This one definitely shows that western side, it takes me back to my childhood. It takes me back to my roots," Wilson told media outlets during an ASCAP-hosted party.
The hard-working ethos passed down through generations in the Wilson family has fueled Lainey's ascent as a country star. Here, she draws parallels between the climb to country stardom and the challenges akin to the life of a farmer. "I come from a long line of hardheaded tough people and people who have kind of blazed their own trails. I'm from five generations of farmers in northeast Louisiana, and I always compare farming to the music business," said Wilson. "I mean, you get up every day, do the same thing, you have good years, you have bad years, but you just keep on blazing that trail. So I think it's just kind of digging a little deeper into my story."
Wilson performed "Wildflowers And Wild Horses" on TV for the first time at the 57th Annual CMA Awards on November 8, 2023. She won five awards at the ceremony: Entertainer of the Year, Album of the Year, Female Vocalist of the Year and Musical Event and Music Video of the Year for her collaboration with Hardy on "Wait In The Truck." She released the song as the third single from Bell Bottom Country five days later.
