Chris Stapleton first met Morgane Hayes in 2003 while working at neighboring publishing houses. Sparks flew, and they tied the knot on October 27, 2007. This song is a heartfelt ode where Stapleton professes his unwavering love and gratitude for his wife.

Over a blend of country, soul and blues, Stapleton pays homage to his woman, who makes him feel like a man. She's his comforter, healer, friend, encourager, and the one who keeps his feet on the ground.

Stapleton wrote "It Takes a Woman" with bluegrass songwriters and vocalists Ronnie Bowman and Jerry Salley. The same three also penned "Outlaw State Of Mind" from Stapleton's 2015 Traveller album.
