I'm just living that life Von Dutch, cult classic, but I still pop Von Dutch is an American fashion brand named after Kenny Howard, an American artist and pinstriper who went by the nickname "Von Dutch." After Howard's death in 1992, the trademark for his name was licensed to various companies. French designer Christian Audigier helped popularize the brand in the early 2000s. Von Dutch gained popularity in the US and attracted the attention of such celebrities as Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake, Kylie Jenner and Travis Scott. This turbo-powered tune plays like bravura tweets fired off after a glass of champagne. It showcases Charli XCX's unapologetic attitude as she addresses jealousy from others, while acknowledging her own wealth and fame.
Charli told The Face the song is a throwback to her teens, when she was on MySpace and "first began thinking my taste was cool." It's about being an object of gossip or obsession for people around you and embracing it. "I was sharing my process with friends and people who don't make music, and [the lyrics] were becoming conversational, like things I would text people," said Charli. "It was beginning to feel gossipy in a fun way, so I leant into it."
Charli wrote the song with Easyfun during the session that produced her exhilarating Barbie movie joyride "Speed Drive." Easyfun previously collaborated with Charli on several tracks from her 2017 mixtape Pop 2.
