Ariana Grande's seventh album, Eternal Sunshine, feels like a celestial smoothie. It blends the heady swirl of a Saturn Return – that once-a-lifetime astrological doozy that supposedly grants you the wisdom of a pensioner at the tender age of 30 – with the mind-bending romance of the film Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. Now, some folks might scoff at the idea of stars dictating your love life, but hey, it's a free world. And who can blame Grande for reaching for metaphors after her 2023 divorce from Dalton Gomez? Track 6, "Supernatural," reportedly penned around the time she met her new beau, Ethan Slater, throbs with the kind of lovestruck conviction that only the young (or the recently divorced) can truly muster. Think slow-tempo R&B, a generous helping of reverb, and lyrics that gush about a connection that feels, well, supernatural.

Grande co-wrote and co-produced "Supernatural" with Max Martin and Oscar Görres. Swedish songwriter and record producer Max Martin is one of the most successful figures in contemporary music. He has collaborated extensively on Ariana Grande's music throughout her career, including her entire Eternal Sunshine album. Oscar Görres is a part of Max Martin's production team, Wolf Cousins. This is his first collaboration with Grande. Görres' other credits include Tori Kelly's "Unbreakable Smile," DNCE's "Be Mean," and Sam Smith's "Diamonds."

Grande also recorded a duet version of "Supernatural" with Troye Sivan, which is one of four additional tracks on Eternal Sunshine (Slightly Deluxe). Grande and Sivan previously worked together when she featured on Sivan's 2018 song "Dance To This."
