Bristol-based singer-songwriter George Ezra was initially spotted by his local BBC radio station in early 2012, which started championing his bluesy, acoustic tunes. That led to a live session at BBC's Maida Vale studios and a performance on their stage at the 2013 Glastonbury Festival – his first ever festival gig.
Speaking with MTV UK, Ezra described this track as "indulgent." He said: "It's a song that's looking at alter egos and characters that everybody has and the idea of a glimpse of one of those characters coming through and it's quite indulgent, I'm running with it in the song and it's a very fun one to sing live because of that." Ezra added: "My sound's very influenced from when I started listening to music I was listening to a lot of blues and folk music but then of course I've grown up in England in the twenty first century so it's just this combination of the two things and I think that's evident when you listen."
