This starry-eyed Romeo isn't exactly your high school locker-slamming jock. Enter Travis Kelce, the formidable tight end for the Kansas City Chiefs, whom Swift started dating in July 2023. The song, you see, plays with this contrast. Kelce, the public titan, juxtaposed with the giddy vulnerability of a high school romance.

Why do we think Swift is singing about her footballer boyfriend? She sprinkles several clues into her lyrics. Clue One: Are you gonna marry, kiss or kill me? Clue Three: You know how to ball, I know Aristotle While Kelce is busy catching touchdowns, Taylor's here name-dropping ancient Greek philosophers. Opposites attract, they say. In this case, they write catchy pop tunes about it. Swift previously quoted Aristotle in her Folklore track "Cardigan," when she sang "A friend to all is a friend to none."
