Here, John Mayer addresses a former girlfriend called Rosie, who broke up with him because of his drinking: Rosie Come down and get the door for me I'm drunk again, remember when we used to be? He's turned up drunk at Rosie's door, but it's a lost cause, and she leaves him outside in "the January rain."

Asked about the inspiration for this song during a Twitter Q&A, John Mayer replied: "I wanted to write a soulful song about a guy who's a drunk selfish idiot. (Not me.) He's a sweet lunkhead (Me.)"
