I'll Be Your Man

This buoyant, upbeat track is the second US single from Some Kind Of Trouble, the third studio album by British singer-songwriter James Blunt. The song is one of several uncynical, bright and breezy tunes on the record. "It captures a bit of the mood of the early '80s. There was a global atmosphere in the West that we could do anything - the same optimism we felt as teenagers," said Blunt of the LP. "Some Kind Of Trouble really captures that same sense of freedom and excitement and naivety."

Blunt wrote this song with Kevin Griffin, who in addition to fronting the band Better Than Ezra, has co-written songs with Missy Higgins, Sugarland, Barenaked Ladies and Christina Perri. In our interview with Griffin, he said: "That song is talking about the coyness in the games that two people play when you're making moves on one another and you're trying to be cool and trying to say something eloquent and sincere, but because you're trying so hard, everything comes out as a cliché. On that one, the meaning is as it is on the surface. It literally is. James was talking about being at this club and there was this beautiful girl, and his inability to be even remotely cool. And that's kind of how we started that song."
