This was Halliwell's debut single after leaving the Spice Girls the previous year. After a vast amount of publicity and promotion the single fell only 700 copies short of reaching #1 in the UK.
The video was very controversial as it featured a funeral for Ginger Spice. The song was nothing like what she performed with the Spice Girls.
Geri Halliwell told NME this was the song that changed her life. "I love the writing process," she said. "I would probably say I'm a better writer than I am a singer. 'Look At Me' - my solo song - you know, I wrote that album [Schizophonic] and that was very life-changing. It was very gut-instinct writing - it wasn't conscious, it wasn't trying to people-please a radio station, it was more like, 'This is how I feel.'"
