Did You Know?

Interesting facts and trivia about Whenever You're Ready (We'll Go Steady Again) - Single Version. By Songfacts®.

When "Saturday Night's Alright (For Fighting)" was released on June 29, 1973, it included two tracks on the B-side: "Jack Rabbit" and this unheralded gem. Running to around 2 minutes 51 seconds, it features David Johnstone on slide guitar. In a March 2014 interview with the official Elton John website, Johnstone said: "That's a slide-guitar with some vibrato. I think Rod Stewart was going to record this song at one point. I know he did 'Let Me Be Your Car' (an outtake from Don't Shoot Me…). That was written for Rod, and I think he was really keen on doing this one also."

"Whenever You're Ready..." did not make it onto the Don't Shoot Me... album but like "Jack Rabbit it was included on the 1995 Mercury and 1996 Rocket reissues. It was of course written by the regular team of John/Taupin.
