Set Fire to the Rain

Fire and rain are elemental opposites that don't mix. In this song, Adele sings about a torrid love affair that is ultimately doomed. By setting fire to the rain, she's finally ready to move on, even though it's going to burn.

Adele was trying to light a cigarette when she came up with the title. She learned that you can't set fire in the rain, but got a great song idea from it. "It's a bit like Chasing Pavements, you can't do it," she told The Sun. "I was playing on my mind while I was trying to light a fag in the rain outside a restaurant." (Note to Americans - "fag" is British slang for "cigarette")

Adele told Q magazine that the title came to her "in the middle of the night when I got up for a wee."
