RaeLynn's first single after signing with Warner Music Nashville, the song finds her expressing her feelings about her parents putting her in the middle during their divorce. "I knew they were arguing about something, and I was really upset, and I almost didn't go to my writing session that day, but something told me to go," the songstress recalled, "and I'm so glad that I did, because I wouldn't have written this song."

RaeLynn penned the song with Nicolle Galyon and Jimmy Robbins. "When I was 3, my mom and dad got a divorce" she explained. "I grew up being that kid who was relaying information back and forth, walking on eggshells, knowing that when I'm with my dad I can't talk with my mom because it would trigger things. The day we wrote this song I almost canceled because my parents were bickering and I was pulled into the middle of it and I was upset. But I'm so glad I went because we created something magical that day." "Jimmy and Nicolle shared their stories too - we all come from different triangles, I guess you could say," RaeLynn added. "It's a powerful thing when a song raises its hand four years after you've written it... you know it's special. I still cry every time I hear it. It's my favorite song I've ever written."

The song's lyrical content about her parents' divorce is a departure from RaeLynn's generally upbeat fare. "I wanted to come out with a song that was 100-percent me, and something more raw, because I want people to know that I'm not just a girl who sings fun, sappy songs, or just a bubbly girl," the singer told People. "I've been through a few things. I know how it feels to go through tough life experiences, and I wanted to show that in my music."
