Did You Know?

Interesting facts and trivia about Hollow Life. By Songfacts®.

Life can seem very hollow at times, as if we're just passing time until death comes for us. In this song, Korn frontman Jonathan Davis grapples with these thoughts and comments on how many people turn to God in an effort to make sense of it all. The song doesn't have any answers, but it does ask some big questions.

"Hollow Life" is part of Korn's fifth album, Untouchables. The album saw Korn trying to revive the nu-metal genre, which they viewed as "soulless." Korn led the way in the genre, starting with their 1994 debut album. They became one of the biggest bands in rock just a few years later and had #1 albums in 1998 (Follow the Leader) and 1999 (Issues). They took some time off before releasing Untouchables in 2002. In the interim, nu-metal became oversaturated and overplayed. Korn held up better than most because they build such an ardent fanbase early on.

Lead singer Jonathan Davis said the songs on the Untouchables album deal with subjects like being an outcast and getting sick of being a victim.
