A Nashvillian since age 10, Russell Dickerson earned a degree in music from Belmont University and signed with Creative Artists Agency in 2010. He co-penned this love song with close friends and frequent co-writers Casey Brown and Parker Welling and it was released independently as a digital single on July 23, 2015. "Yours" was later serviced to country radio on April 24, 2017 after Dickerson signed with Triple Tigers Records. The track gradually gathered momentum and on January 27, 2018, it topped Billboard's Country Airplay chart.
This started out as a love letter to Dickerson's wife Kailey. "["Yours"] was only the second song that the three of us ever wrote together," the singer told Billboard "It's certainly a love song, written for my wife, Kailey. I'm not kidding: when we finished it, we knew it was special, and I said to Casey and Parker, 'You can go to zillow.com and pick out a new house, 'cause we just wrote a # 1 song.'"
This was the first release for Triple Tigers Records, which was launched as a partnership between Thirty Tigers, Triple 8 Management and Sony Music. The previous opening single for a label to top Country Airplay was Chris Lane's "Fix," the debut offering by Big Loud Records, which reached the summit on August 20, 2016.
