Lead singer Doug Robb wrote this song about how the more people have, the more they take for granted. Said Robb: "If I Were You was inspired by the NHL strike. Not like, 'Oh, I'm going to write a song about hockey!' but watching all that and going on tour with Velvet Revolver, you see all these guys who have so much and don't appreciate it."
According to Robb, the black-and-white video was shot "guerrilla-style around the world" and was intended to "capture a bunch of images of youthful exuberance." It was directed by Hype Williams, who is mainly known for his work with hip-hop artists such as Kanye West, Jay-Z, Ja Rule, and Busta Rhymes.
