Did You Know?

Interesting facts and trivia about Overdose. By Songfacts®.

In this song from Alessia Cara's debut album, she likens love to a drug - one that's likely to result in an overdose. The stages of this relationship - fight, break up, get back together - are very similar to the cycles of an addict: get high, overdose, rehab. "This one is kind of a negative a view on love," Cara said in an interview with iHeartRadio. "Love is like a drug. It's addicting, it makes you want to stay, so I wanted to to play off of that. There's allusions to drugs, there's allusions to like hallucinating, and all these things that drugs make you do that love similarly does. That's why it's called 'Overdose,' because you're overdosing on this relationship, this toxic relationship that you don't want to be in."

Cara had a lot of help composing this track. The track was produced by Sebastian Kole along with Andrew Wansel and Warren Felder (Pop & Oak). They got songwriting credits along with Cara and another production duo: the brothers Sam and Robert Gerongco.
