Soundgarden lead singer Chris Cornell wrote this about how he suffered from a severe case of depression during his teenage years, rarely leaving the house. At one point, he spent a whole year without leaving his house, during which time he would play drums and guitar.
It was released as a single in different versions, each with different B-sides.
Cornell told Artist Direct in a 2012 interview that the song is "about waking up and realizing you're in a dark period of your life."
