This cry for freedom from regimentation was co-written by the Go-Gos' drummer Gina Schock, who also provides background vocals. Other artists Schock has written for include A-Ha, John Mellencamp and Debbi Peterson.

Cyrus explained to ABC News that she felt nervous before the release of this album, as it was much more personal than her previous record. She said: "It's my breakout record... To finally not be hiding behind a wig or a character. I'm like 'OK, this is really gonna hurt because these are songs that I've written that are really important to me and things that I want to say.'"
