Did You Know?

Interesting facts and trivia about I'll Be Your Everything. By Songfacts®.

Page wrote this ballad of romantic devotion with New Kids on the Block's Jordan Knight and Danny Wood, who also provide backing vocals, while on tour as the opening act for the boy band in 1989. Page was noodling around on the piano when he caught Knight's attention, he recalls in Fred Bronson's Billboard Book of Number One Hits: "We were at the Hyatt Hotel in Kansas City. Jordan came over and said, 'Can I sit down on the bench?'" Knight already had the idea for "I'll Be Your Everything," which was dismissed as too mature for NKOTB, and worked with the up-and-coming teen idol to finish the song with the intention of using it himself on a solo project. He eventually took on the role of producer when Page wanted to include it on his second album.

Page was so excited about his new single that he let it slip a couple weeks before its intended debut. "The single was not supposed to come out until the end of February... I was a little devil and started giving the song to people [in radio] I shouldn't have given it to. But before I knew it, my friends were calling [saying], 'Your song's on the radio.'"

He eventually disappeared from the charts, but not from the industry. He became a music executive at Warner Bros. Records, where he worked with a variety of artists, including Alanis Morissette, Green Day, and Michael Buble before moving on to Billboard as a publisher. He died in 2017 of an apparent suicide.
