This track was originally recorded for Kanye West's aborted project Yandhi, under the title of "The Storm." That song's message found West and Ty Dolla $ign encouraging a girl to take control of her life. After the rapper experienced a spiritual transformation, he re-recorded the song; its message was changed to being about how everything that is necessary for life can be found in God.
Ty Dolla $ign has been a frequent singer of hooks and bridges to West's music since his 2016 album, The Life of Pablo. The West Coast crooner's contributions include "All Mine," which also featured Ant Clemons.
"The Storm" included a cuss-filled verse from XXXTENTACION. The late rapper's boastful rhymes were scrapped by Kanye, as they were contrary to the spiritual theme of Jesus Is King. He bought in as a replacement Ant Clemons, who is a member of Yeezy's Sunday Service gospel-rap group. The New Jersey native also contributes vocals to the track "Water."
