Singer James Allan told the Daily Record August 5, 2008: "It's about the pressures that families put on their kids. Like families that tell kids to fight and not come home."

This was the band's debut single release. It was issued as a digital download and limited edition 7" single in October 2006 on the WaKS label.

According to the record's sleeve notes, "Go Square Go" is a Scottish term referring to "pugilistic unarmed combat with both parties ready and willing participants."
