Tauren Wells is a singer-songwriter from battle Creek, Michigan, who started his solo career as the frontman for the American Christian pop-rock band Royal Tailor. Their 2013 self-titled album reached #95 on the US albums chart. The group disbanded in 2015 and Wells started a solo career, which was boosted by being chosen open for Lionel Richie on his 2017 All the Hits tour.
This song finds Wells talking about how God truly and fully loves him, despite knowing all his flaws. It was inspired by a quote from New York pastor and author Timothy Keller that says: "To be loved and not known is comforting but superficial; to be known but not loved is our greatest fear. But to be fully known and fully loved is a lot like being loved by God."
"Know" was recorded by Wells for his 2017 Hills and Valleys album. Released as its fifth single on June 23, 2018, it became Wells' first #1 on the Billboard's Christian airplay chart. It also was nominated (without winning) for the 2019 Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Christian Music Performance/Song.
