When Fleur East performed "Uptown Funk" during the UK X Factor semifinal, she received unanimous praise from the judges. The listeners loved her rendition too and as a result her cover topped the iTunes chart. This funky song with a brassed-up chorus was penned by East with Electric, JHart and Camille Purcell. It was clearly inspired by Mark Ronson's smash hit.
The song was released as Fleur East's first single since finishing as runner-up on the 2014 X Factor competition. It was launched on November 6, 2015 to coincide with her return to X Factor where she performed the tune.
This soundtracked UK supermarket Asda's 2015 Christmas advertising campaign. "The first time I watched it I was on the edge of my sofa," East laughed to Digital Spy. "My mouth was open the whole time. I couldn't believe it was my song!" "I used to shop in Asda all the time," she added. "Every now and then I still go in to get a little salad for lunch."
