Did You Know?

Interesting facts and trivia about The Back Seat Of My Car - 2012 Remaster. By Songfacts®.

McCartney started writing this while he was still a member of The Beatles. It was his attempt at a classic American love song, with a classic American theme: driving off with the girl you love.

In the UK, this was McCartney's second single as a solo artist, following "Another Day." It wasn't issued as a single in America, where another track from the Ram album, "Uncle Albert - Admiral Halsey," got the honor and went to #1. "The Back Seat Of My Car" placed at just #39 in the UK, surprising considering McCartney's history of hits with The Beatles. Many fans and critics found his first two solo albums - McCartney and Ram - underwhelming, especially when his former bandmates (even Ringo) were cranking out hits. Paul ended up having an exceptional solo career, and those first two albums gained a lot of respect through the lens of history.

There were some lines in this song that John Lennon thought were directed at him and Yoko. Specifically, "We believe that we can't be wrong."
