Did You Know?

Interesting facts and trivia about Get Up. By Songfacts®.

This was co-written and produced by the Canadian record producer Scott Storch. His previous collaborations with 50 Cent include the singles "Candy Shop" and "Just a Lil Bit." Unfortunately Storch has fallen out with a couple of other A-list artists he has worked with. His quarrel with Timbaland is referenced on "Give It To Me" and his dispute with Christina Aguilera on "F.U.S.S.". However this collaboration displays that he and 50 remain buddies.

In this song 50 is encouraging people to move on the dance floor. The rapper is also warning them he's come to spread not only some NYC hate, but also some "California Love." He explained to MTV News that the 1996 Tupac song was a massive influence on this number. Said Fif: "Well, you know, 'California Love' is a great song. And this joint is more like it. It's the same key and being played in the same key. It's the first thing that came to my head when I heard the beat. That's what I feel like great music does. It inspires you to actually say something that you wouldn't say. Although with different production, I wouldn't have wrote the verses different and the intro different, but because I felt that way I started off, 'I came to bring you that California love and New York hate, all of the above.'"

In the song's music video, 50 Cent is the last man on earth. The rapper explained to MTV News that he was inspired by the Will Smith film I Am Legend: "I wanted to do something more exciting and interesting than the traditional club video. The directors come in, and guys present treatments to me, and they aren't my usual video directors, and we came up with a concept for it, just a little more futuristic. I took a scene that I seen in a Will Smith film, I Am Legend... It's a collage that I thought was interesting."
