The inspiration for this song about God's love was explained in the liner notes for Wow Hits 2008: "Sometimes it is so hard to accept God's unacceptable love when we realize all we have done. 'I Need You to Love Me' was written during a prayer time when I finally stopped running from God in my brokenness and decided to let God love me. I realized that His love was meant to change us: we were never meant to change ourselves."
The song was the most played song of 2006 on the Radio and Records Christian Hit Radio chart, holding onto the #1 spot for a record-breaking 13 consecutive weeks.
