This was the lead single from Matchbox Twenty frontman Rob Thomas' second solo album, Cradlesong.
The phrase "her diamonds" is a metaphor for a girl's tears. In an interview with Neil McCormick on Twitter, Thomas explained: "It's actually a song about a girl who is very ill. It's a song about empathy and dealing with that with someone you love." The Matchbox Twenty frontman is referring to his Puerto-Rican wife Mari, who suffers from a rare autoimmune disease.
