Did You Know?

Interesting facts and trivia about Her Diamonds. By Songfacts®.

This was the lead single from Matchbox Twenty frontman Rob Thomas' second solo album, Cradlesong.

The phrase "her diamonds" is a metaphor for a girl's tears. In an interview with Neil McCormick on Twitter, Thomas explained: "It's actually a song about a girl who is very ill. It's a song about empathy and dealing with that with someone you love." The Matchbox Twenty frontman is referring to his Puerto-Rican wife Mari, who suffers from a rare autoimmune disease.

Actress Alicia Silverstone starred in the song's music video. In the 1990s, Silverstone earned the nickname "the Aerosmith chick" after starring in the band's promos for "Cryin'," "Crazy" and "Amazing."
