This is a true song about Clarkson's ex boyfriend, who broke up with her and got married a month later. The song is about being hurt by someone you were once close to. The tears she cries are behind her hazel eyes so the guy can't see them - she won't give him the satisfaction.
"Behind These Hazel Eyes" followed "Since U Been Gone" as the second single from Kelly Clarkson's second album, Breakaway. Both songs were big hits, casting aside suggestions that Clarkson was a manufactured American Idol winner who couldn't sustain a career.
Clarkson wrote the song with its producers Max Martin and Dr. Luke, who also wrote and produced "Since U Been Gone." These songs were the first hits the Swedes collaborated on, although Martin was already well established. Hit's that followed for the pair include "U And Ur Hand" for Pink and "California Gurls" by Katy Perry.
