This was originally written in the key of E as this was the pitch of the engine for Supergrass' tour bus as it traveled down the motorway.

This originally went by the working title of "Susan."

Around the time of its release, drummer Danny Goffey squabbled with frontman Gaz Coombes over the lyrics of this song in the music press. Goffey seemed to presume that Coombes had based the lyrics on the drummer's involvement with his girlfriend Pearl Lowe in the tabloid gossip columns.
