This is about lead singer Kris Roe's relationship with his daughter, Starla. He rarely sees her because he is constantly touring and is never around. He lives in California while she lives in Indiana (Kris and her mother were never married and are no longer together). It also relates to his relationship with his own father, who was not around for some of his childhood due to a divorce.
