Did You Know?

Interesting facts and trivia about Some Day My Prince Will Come. By Songfacts®.

The story of Snow White is extremely well known; in 1912, one version of the original German fairy tale found its way onto Broadway as Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs, and in 1937, the Walt Disney production became the first full length animated feature film in history. Although not a musical as such, it contained a number of songs, probably the most thematic of which is "Some Day My Prince Will Come." This is of course sung by Snow White herself, and was commissioned from the composer Frank Churchill (1901-42) and lyricist Larry Morey (1905-71). The part of Snow White was voiced - and sung - by the Italian-American actress Adriana Caselotti (1916-97), and the song appears at just before the hour mark, and twice more later in the film. The American Film Institute actually listed it as 19th in its list of 100 Greatest Songs in 100 years of films, although it is arguable if it is even the best song in the film.

A jazz version of this song was performed by the Ghetto Swingers at the Theresienstadt concentration camp in the Czech Republic during WWII. Only two of the swingers survived after they were transferred to the Auschwitz death camp in 1944 - guitarist/drummer Coco Schumann and pianist Martin Roman.
